GSK-McLaren Pit Stop Challenge - winners announced!
22 May 2014
Thank you to everyone who entered the GSK-McLaren Pit Stop Challenge 2014. We had some inspiring entries from hundreds of students from schools all across the UK.
After careful thought, our judges narrowed the entries down to a final six teams. These final six were invited to visit the GSK Human Performance Lab, where top athletes and researchers are using science and technology to help improve human performance, on Tuesday 20th May.
Here, all six teams presented their investigation to our three judges: double Olympic champion, Dame Kelly Holmes; Neil Trundle, Heritage Cars Manager at McLaren and Kerry O’Callaghan, VP Global Brand Communications at GSK.
Following the presentations, the final teams were invited to explore the Human Performance Lab, witnessing some of the machines in action and learning more about the relationship between sport, technology and science from the HPL’s leading sport scientists.
Finally, the winners of the GSK-McLaren Pit Stop Challenge were announced.
1st Place: Technical Analysis, Solihull School, West Midlands
2nd Place: TMNT, Dartford Grammar School for Girls, Kent
3rd Place: Kelvin Rosberg, Kelvin Hall School, Yorkshire
All three winners won a visit to the McLaren Technology Centre with our overall winner, Luke Bryant from Solihull School, securing £1000 of science equipment for his school.
Our runner-up finalists were:
F1 Ducks, Gillingham School, Dorset
Team 1, Chipping Norton School, Oxfordshire
Team P1, Richard Hale School, Hertfordshire
The judges were really impressed by the science that lay behind all six presentations, and the confidence with which each team presented their investigations.
